Steph’s Top Five Tips to Avoid Overeating During the Holidays

Why is it that a lot of people’s lifestyle changes (diet especially) slip during the holidays?  It’s not will power, motivation, or laziness… it’s a lack of planning!  I hope this quick segment help you plan for a better, healthier holiday season so you can stay fit and feeling well all season long!

 Steph’s Top Five Tips to Avoid Overeating During the Holidays

  1. Eat good fats first: grass fed beef, pastured eggs, butter, and the like are very satiating—they keep you fuller longer!
  2. Don’t skimp on the protein and vegetables!  Keep your potatoes and other starchy vegetables for last.
  3. Set realistic goals and expectations with yourself.  It’s okay to have a treat, but make sure  you know your limits.  (Read: if you will eat a pint of eggnog ice cream if you buy it, then don’t buy it.)   DO NOT FEEL GUILTY FOR STEALLING ONE COOKIE FROM SANTA… if it’s the whole pan of cookies you’re contemplating email me!
  4. Plan and pack food accordingly.  If you’re going to a relative’s house that has ZERO decent options ask what you can bring to the feast.  If that doesn’t work then bring some food for just your family or eat before you go.
  5. Do NOT skip meals.  Eat regularly to help maintain balanced blood sugar.  If you need a snack go for deviled eggs, olives, leftover meats, or a couple cubes of cheese (if you tolerate dairy).

Bonus tip—DON’T FORGET TO SLEEP!  Yes, you’re on vacation and you don’t have to get up the next day for work, but getting to bed at a decent time will help you in your health goals even during the holidays.
